You have the option of using the IP Locator in On-Premise, Melissa Data Cloud and Dedicated Cloud.
Processing Mode
On-Premise Processing Mode
It uses locally installed instances of the objects in Melissa Data's Data Quality Suite. It is faster, but requires that you keep the objects and their underlying data files up-to-date.
Melissa Data Cloud Processing Mode
It uses Melissa Data’s WebSmart services. The data is always up-to-date, but this mode requires an internet connection and is slower than On-Premise Mode.
Dedicated Cloud Processing Mode
It is similar to Melissa Data Cloud processing, except that IP Locator connects to an on-site
IP Locator Server using the same protocols used by Melissa Data Cloud processing to connect to the WebSmart Web services.
